Before WWII, Potsdamer Platz was one of the busiest and most densely built-up areas in Berlin. However, most of these landmarks were destroyed after the bombing of 1945, and burned-out ruins were pulled down to build the Berlin wall. Between 1961 and 1989, Potsdamer Platz had torn between East and West Berlin. The area was then deserted for nearly 4 decades.

Since mid-1990s a new financial and business district has sprung up on this empty wasteland, which was once divided East and West Berlin. The huge new complex comprises office buildings, concert hall, multimeida cinema and the Arkaden shopping mall.

Today, Potsdamer Platz is one of my favourate and most frequently visited place in Berlin. I drop by this area twise daily for changing the subway between home and my school. Potsdamer Platz seems to me a futuristic dreamland…
