Meissen is a little old town on both banks of the Elbe in Saxony, Southeastern Germany. She is also the home of the famous Meissen porcelain, the Albrechtsburg castle, the Gothic Meissen Cathedral and the Church of Our Lady, the Frauenkirche.

Albrechtsburg, the late Gothic castle of Wettins, redecorated in the 19th century with a range of murals depicting Saxon history. Meissen Cathedral, the Dom, built in the 13th century in the gothic style. The hill on which the castle and the cathedral are built offers a view over the roofs of the old town.

Since we were staying in Dresden for 2 days, we decided to hop onto a train to Meissen (40 mins away) in the afternoon. However, due to the closing hour, we could only manage to visit the Albrechtsburg castle. It was impressive! We then spent the rest of daylight looming around this little town…
