Erected in the early 12th century it is one of 4 holy dhams in India. Pilgrims spending 3 auspicious days and nights near the temple and near Lord Jagannath,the presiding deity. As non Hindus we were not allowed to go inside.

Famous are also the food called maharprashad. It is directly blessed by the Lord and is so pure that ‘even a mosel taken from the mouth of a dog and fed to brahmin by a Harijan (Untouchable) will cleanse the body of sin.’

Pilgrims are offering food in broken and imperfect pots because ‘Lord Jagannath is the only perfection in this world.The dimensions of temple and pilgrimage is only imaginable if you know that every day 6000 employees of the holy place make sure that the flow never get disturbt.
