In Xieng Kok, the last little town of Laos we stayed, we came across this Chinese family, Xiao Meng with her husband and parents plus her little boy, who moved here few years ago for earning a living by opening a groceries shop. Since this village is relatively small and there was no other entertainment, I spent most of the afternoon chit chatting with her. The conversation started by asking her how to head down from here to Hui Xai, the border town between Thailand and Laos. She was extremely hospitable. She invited us for dinner, but we gently decline due to the complication of us being vegetarian. Before we leave for the night, she packed some biscuits and drinks, forced into my hands.

The next day before we left, we went to say ‘good bye’ to her, and once again, out of her busy schedule, she quickly picked some stuff from her shop in a plastic bag and forced it into my hands. It warms our heart instantly…
