In Banglapoo, Bangkok, we usually stay at UTC. Around Khao San Road area, UTC seems to have better accommodation within the budget range. A double room, fan and shared bathroom with hot shower, costs THB250 (US$6.58) per night. It isn’t great in term of cleanliness, they probably never mop their floor. If you’re lucky to get Room 104 – a bigger room with big front window, it is actually not a bad deal.

After arrived to Bangkok (from Yangon), we were trying to upgrade our accommodation from budget to midrange. But most guesthouses were full that night, we were ended up stuck with UTC again. The next morning, Alex had a crisis seeing our durty shared toilets. Since then, we had been practicing ‘standing yoga posture’ while using the toilets. ‘House hunting’ started immediately but for a long time, we couldn’t get what we wanted.

Yesterday, we finally found ‘Happy House’ in Soi Chana Songkhram, a little lane off Pra Athit Road. We actually passed by this lane many times while doing ‘house hunting’ but missed it. How funny!

Happy House has nice and cosy rooms, very CLEAN and currently having promotion of 10% discount, and cocktail coupon of THB20 per night in its restaurant. It was rather rough at UTC the past two nights, so we choose a nicer aircon, double room with balcony, attached bathroom with hot shower. It costs us THB540 (US$14.20) after discount. A big thumb up for Happy House’s cleaning crew and reception staff, they are very friendly and extremely helpful, but its travel agency and restaurant need to be improved.

I think this is the end for us to choose  shared bathroom accommodation in Bangkok…
