Generally if you are afraid of getting sick you can take medication before hand to avoid getting altitude sickness. We met 2 travelers who did this. We did 1 stop (stay at the same place for a day) in between to get used to the altitude and we were fine. We bought this very good little first aid book to be a bit prepared: Pocket first Aid and Wilderness Medicine by Dr. Jim Duff MBChB and Dr. Peter Gormly MB FRCS ISBN C-9750731-1-7 (You should be able to get it anyway in India or Katmandu) If you really get sick you will need to descend a few meters to acclimatize with altitude before further ascend.
